The purpose of this book is to promote training guidelines for active martial artists on stretching, strengthening, body mechanics and management of common injuries. The information is based on current medical knowledge of biomechanics, injury prevention and rehabilitation principles. <br /><br />This book will answer the following questions:<br />1) Why and how do I properly stretch before class?<br />2) How can I modify my training to improve specific techniques?<br />3) How do I deal with common injuries?<br /><br />A competent martial artist should have a basic understanding of the answers to these questions. Martial arts’ training is extremely physical, and without knowing the answers to the above questions advancement of physical abilities is limited.<br /><br />The physical fitness aspects of martial arts are divided into four chapters which include:<br />1)General training principles: This explains the principles of the body's responses to physical activities related to martial arts training.<br />2)Warm-up and stretching exercises: Because a thorough warm-up is common in martial arts training, this section details a step-by-step warm-up and stretching routine. This includes an explanation of what muscle groups are being stretched and what kicking and punching techniques benefit the most from them.<br />3)Body mechanics: This specifies and explains proper body mechanics for basic karate techniques, as well as stretching and strengthening exercises to enhance each technique.<br />4)Injuries: This chapter spells out how to prevent and manage common injuries.
