In the 1940s at the urging of his friend and colleague Karl Schmidt of the Field Museum in Chicago, Charles Barber (1876-1954) penned the stories of his time as a museum collector in the American Southwest, Mexico and Guatemala. These are the stories of a young man whose first trip west in 1894 turned into a lifelong pursuit of natural history, zoology and paleontology. The majority of his recollections cover the time period from 1903 through 1908, which were the years when he was employed by the Field Museum. Charley ultimately came to the realization that he was preserving not only a bit of the history of field collecting, but also the memories of his mentors and colleagues and the life that he and his contemporaries led. These previously unpublished manuscripts are a fascinating look into the life of the exacting natural scientist who often had to rely on none but himself for survival in remote and dangerous settings.

SPORTS & POLITICS & GREEN BAY PACKERS –
Green Bay Love Stories and Confessions of a Grassroots Candidate is an amazing story of intrigue, fascination and sheer fun and you’ll be totally amazed by this tale of how a woman with a colorful past, the Lombardi Green Bay Packers and state politics combined to create a international media firestorm for a few weeks in the fall of 2006.

Sandy Sullivan is an author, teacher, artist, businesswoman and public speaker who worked with Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers in the early 1960's.
Her first book, “Green Bay Love Stories,” was acknowledged as a significant historical account of the Packers Glory Years and the foreword is written by Packers Hall of Fame great, Paul Hornung.
Now she has written the rest of the story - "Green Bay Love Stories and Confessions of a Grassroots Candidate." It is the story about what happened when she ran for Wisconsin Secretary of State and how the media took the “Love Stories” book and spun it into an international media “fire-storm” in the fall of 2006. The book is well worth the 542 page reading time; just to learn about her relationships with some of the colorful and marvelous characters who played for Lombardi and what can and did happen when she ran for public office. There are 90+ photos which add to the authenticity, endear the characters and enhance the storyline.

The first book by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady—the five-time Super Bowl champion who is still reaching unimaginable heights of excellence at forty years old—a gorgeously illustrated and deeply practical “athlete’s bible” that reveals Brady’s revolutionary approach to sustained peak performance for athletes of all kinds and all ages.

In modern sports, some athletes have managed to transcend their competition in a way that no one will ever forget: Jordan. Jeter. Ali. Williams. These elite legends have changed the game, achieved the unthinkable, and pushed their bodies to unbelievable limits. Joining their exclusive ranks is Tom Brady.

“Brady is the healthiest great champion the NFL has ever had, both physically and mentally” (Sally Jenkins, The Washington Post). The longtime New England Patriots quarterback, who in 2017 achieved his fifth Super Bowl win and fourth Super Bowl MVP award, is widely regarded as an athlete whose training and determination pushed him from a mediocre draft position to the most-revered and respected professional football player of his generation.

In The TB12 Method, Tom Brady explains how he developed his groundbreaking approach to long-term fitness, presenting a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to his personal practice. Brady offers the principles behind pliability, which is at the heart of a new paradigm shift and movement toward a more natural, healthier way of exercising, training, and living—and one that challenges some commonly held assumptions around health and wellness. Filled with lessons learned from Brady’s own peak performance training, and step-by-step action steps to help readers develop and maintain their own peak performance, The TB12 Method also advocates for more effective approaches to strength training, hydration, nutrition, supplementation, cognitive fitness, recovery, and other lifestyle choices that dramatically decrease the risk of injury while amplifying and extending performance, as well as quality of life.

After using his methods for over a decade, Brady believes that the TB12 approach has made him—and can make any athlete, male or female, in any sport and at any level—achieve their own peak performance. With instructions, drills, photos, in-depth case studies that Brady himself has used, as well as personal anecdotes and experiences from on and off the field, The TB12 Method is the only book an athlete will ever need, a playbook from Brady himself that will change the game.

Folds to the Door is primarily a recollection of priceless memories. It is not, however, exclusively a book for those who were fortunate enough to attend Camp Hagan. The contents cover the history of camps, information about the area where the camp was located in the Poconos, documentation about the influence of the Lutheran Church in its quest to build character in the youth who attended, a look at life and how people’s perspectives and priorities varied with world events, and even meteorological and topographical influences. So, while this book, for those who attended, will be held dear as a time capsule of people, places, activities, and reminiscences, any reader will find the contents engaging.

Markus Wasmeier

What were the dreams of your youth? Were they fulfilled or are you still chasing them? Mine was to be like James Bond - without killing anyone, of course. To wear the tuxedo, drive an Aston Martin, ski the Swiss Alps and marry a beautiful girl. But, being born neither rich nor cultured, I had little chance of realizing such desires.

So, did my dream came true? Well, that’s the rub - you will have to read the book to find out. But, here’s a little tidbit to wet your pallet: “It reminds me now of Casino Royale, the scene in which James Bond and Vesper Lynd were dining alone at the Hotel Splendide. My wife’s lovely blue eyes sparkled with light from the crystal chandeliers. Joy and I were in St. Moritz to ski and seated that evening at a quiet table in the Palace Hotel’s dining room. Fingering my lapel, I glanced up at the waiter, smiled, and uttered, “Bond, James Bond.” He straightened a bit, raised his eyebrows, looked down his long French nose and said, “Yes, Monsieur, but white dinner jackets are worn only in the summer.” Needless to say, I spent the rest of the evening peeking out of my shoe laces. Such were the lessons to be learned by a California guy wishing to be Bond.”

In the pages that follow you will travel to Vienna, Budapest, London, Monte Carlo and Nassau. Tuxedo attired, you will sip champagne in the world’s finest hotels, enjoy New Year’s Eve at the Paris Ritz, attend the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Monaco Grand Prix and drive Aston Martins on some of the world’s best race tracks. And, you will learn how I got the money and culture to make my James Bond dream come true.

Beyond entertaining reading, hopefully 007Obie will help nudge you towards the fulfillment of your desires. To paraphrase Jackson Browne in his song, The Pretender, “…you don’t want to be left standing on the shore as the ship bearing your dreams sails out of sight.”
