In this book, I am sharing with you my experiences from my birth up until now. I was born in Switzerland and our family moved a few times until finally we moved back to our father’s hometown where we built our own house.

I included some hilarious true childhood stories!

After travelling to Brazil and England (getting married in England), moving to the USA my family finally got back to Switzerland and stayed there for twenty years. Now for the last twenty years we have been living in Canada, close to my husband’s sisters.

I think it is a good time to write my memoirs now since I am 65 years old and when I still have the capability to do so!

This book also describes my spiritual journey. There are many pictures, nostalgic ones and others. My trips lead me to Australia, India, Switzerland, Canada (Montreal), USA (San Francisco), Brazil, Spain, France and England. I was in India five times and am writing in detail about my experiences with Sathya Sai Baba.

I hope everyone enjoys this book and I appreciate your interest!

Thank you and may God bless you!

Born 1936 in Czechoslovakia, Edith chronicles her life in memoir form. This memoir gives a view of World War II as seen from the eyes of a child, a young woman going to college to work in the first drug labs, in a time when women were coming into equal rights in the 1960's, and immigrating to America. Edith shows us a rare perspective of a quiet and strong woman, and all the mountains we have to climb in order to realize life.

We all have an immortal soul, and that soul wants to improve and evolve, with or without our conscious consent. During a long span of my lifetime, I was blissfully and unconsciously living the high life, with no game plan. I was so oblivious that I didn’t even pause to realize I had no game plan. This could very well be viewed as reckless or stupid. Still, during all those years a deeply hidden constant stayed with me. I have no recollection of urgency or concern in discovering what subliminally pestered me, only the will to continue. Intuitively I somehow knew I would find the truth, so I persevered. In some way I was not weighed down with “what ifs”. Like “Goldilocks”, I simply moved forward to “try out the next scenario”. I am not suggesting this to be an admirable or ideal approach. I am acutely aware that I have deeply hurt many noble people along the way. For this I am profoundly sorry. After much work, I have found a way to forgive myself, finally realizing I was only doing the best I knew how to do, given my level of awareness. There was no conscious effort on my part, because there was very little understanding. Ultimately, by God’s grace, I was cradled and protected from inciting my own extermination, reason enough to live the rest of my days in unending gratitude. Consider then, a life lived in active consciousness, sagacity and trust. There are literally NO limitations. We all have the unmistakable ability to manifest exactly what we want for ourselves in our lives. It is a choice that requires sacrifice, continuous commitment and discipline but is certainly worth the endeavor!

Victoria Takács was born in Wilmington, Delaware, where she attended Wilmington Friends School from Kindergarten through tenth grade. After high school, and a brief attempt at college, she took a two-week vacation to Mexico, from which she did not return for 12 years. The story of her life has been one with many inspirational twists and turns, thus insisting on being told. Victoria is a writer, former high school Spanish teacher and certified yoga instructor. She holds a degree in Spanish, specializing in simultaneous interpretation and literary translation. She is a mother and a grandmother and currently resides in Cuernavaca, Mexico, where she teaches meditation and yoga.

This is a shocking true story about a woman surviving life-long abuse, eventually leading to the kidnap of her two small children by their father. They never came home. Her former partner launched a terrible campaign of revenge, isolating her with no family support and a damaged reputation.

Alone and traumatized, Polly turned to her doctor for help but he exploited her vulnerability, sexually abusing her secretly over a two year period. Later she was almost blacklisted following the quick expulsion from two doctors' patient lists for surviving Dr X's misconduct. Hospital social workers supported custody to her ex, knowing of his domestic abuse, with dire consequences.

Fighting back, Polly attended the medical court but they cleared him to return to work. After the cover-up, she lost her career and her home as well as her children as the toxic fall-out almost destroyed her life. Using her spirituality and love for her children and nature, she escaped the place of abuse to become an adventurer, writer and poet.

Despite her ex partner's cruel tactics to destroy the relationship with her children, she survived, kept her faith, started singing and finally reclaimed the once lost role of mother. Today, Polly is a proud grandmother of several beautiful children: the buds in the rose garden over the wall.

Fran Leeper Buss, a former welfare recipient who earned a PhD in history and became a pioneer in the field of oral history, has for forty years dedicated herself to the goal of collecting the stories of marginal and working-class U.S. women. Memory, Meaning, and Resistance is based on over 100 oral histories gathered from women from a variety of racial, ethnic, and geographical backgrounds, including a traditional Mexican American midwife, a Latina poet and organizer for the United Farm Workers, and an African American union and freedom movement organizer. Buss now analyzes this body of work, identifying common themes in women’s lives and resistance that unite the oral histories she has gathered. From the beginning, her work has shed light on the inseparable, compounding effects of gender, race, ethnicity, and class on women’s lives—what is now commonly called intersectionality. Memory, Meaning, and Resistance is structured thematically, with each chapter analyzing a concept that runs through the oral histories, e.g., agency, activism, religion. The result is a testament to women’s individual and collective strength, and an invaluable guide for students and researchers, on how to effectively and sensitively conduct oral histories that observe, record, recount, and analyze women’s life stories.
